What a wonderful day out I had at the Cumbria Easter Rally. It was one of my most enjoyable days yet. It started with a telephone call to Paul, who was extremely helpful and informative. He didn’t just sign post my mother to a website link and fob her off with the classic; ” Have you looked online?” He told my mother all about the event and where to go, clearly genuinely enthusiastic about this great event.

We set off travelling from Kirby Lonsdale direction.  We stopped off at Town End Garage LA6 2RX and it really added to the day when we pulled up to the garage in our little Austin as a lady came out and served you your petrol, how good a service is that! You don’t get that at the supermarkets, most of Asda are not even manned! She had a chat about our wonderful Austin and off we drove on our journey to the start of the event at the Fat Lamb at Fell End.

There were no pricy online ticket sales either, if you had a tenner in your pocket, you could go and have a fantastic day out. Every where took cash and their were donation buckets to throw your cash into, which is a great idea. Home-made cake stalls lined the streets, complimenting the outstanding display of vintage vehicles.

There were a few cars at Fell End but the fun really started at Kirkby Stephen Railway Station. As soon as we pulled in we saw a great big red double decker bus powering off and we gave chase in our little Austin.

We momentarily stopped for mum to launch me out of the car for me to get some pictures whilst she chased after the red beast.

A happy wave from the driver and off the passengers went on their journey to Kirby Stephen.

We then drove down to Kirby Stephen ourselves, parked Austin up and had a look around the wonderful displays of cars, vans and trucks.

The buses were running regularly from the Fat Lamb to the centre of Kirby Stephen and from the centre of Kirby Stephen to Brough. We hopped on a bus, no tickets, no messing just a donation bucket on the door and the majority of people I saw were throwing contributions in.

When we went to Brough there were some outstanding wagons. Longthornes of Hebden were there and they had two wagons, they started both up for us and they sounded amazing. There is a video of the Iveco storming through the snow below

I have put a gallery of the wagons below which I hope you enjoy. The rest of the wagons, cars and the tractors and the interviews can be seen on the Youtube link at the bottom of the blog.

I can’t stress enough how much I enjoyed this event and would highly recommend everyone to go next year, see you there 😊
