We headed to Attymass in Ireland to look at the abandoned cottages of the Ox Mountains. We had gained permission from the owners, it is private property so access without permission is trespassing.

Our guide was Matilda’s aunty; Tracy Ann Bowland. Tracy has relatives who suffered from The Great Famine and she has a wealth of knowledge about the area and it was fascinating to hear what she had to say.

It is quite a steep hike up to the cottages and I admire anyone who was involved in carting the stone up to build these beautiful cottages and animal shelters.

In the documentary we touched on the reasons why these beautiful cottages were abandoned, but I would encourage anyone to go more in depth and research the story, it’s absolutely fascinating.

I throughly enjoyed making this documentary and visiting the area will always leave an unforgettable memory inprinted on my mind
